TOUR 6 (M); Thailand & Malaysia: Group adventure Tour package
30 Days. From AUD $3,390

New & improved Itinerary.

This Thailand & Malaysia group adventure/holiday tour package is part adventure and part relaxed holiday.

You will see and experience some history, go hill tribe trekking, have both warm island and cool mountain relaxation, great shopping and many friendly cultures.

This is our best itinerary for food with both Thai and multicultural Malaysian. It has the lot and is a great introduction for both first-timers or return visitors to Asia as both countries are friendly, safe and hassle-free.

And now with two flights replacing the previous overnight train trips, you get even more comfort and destinations.

Food is no doubt a major highlight of this trip.

Baktrax’s food advisor from France declares without hesitation that, “Malaysia is undoubtedly the food capital of the world, and Penang is the best place in Malaysia to try a lot of it”.

Thai’s will no doubt disagree with this so you can be your own judge as to who has the best. Baktrax takes no responsibility whatsoever for gained weight during this trip. Whether it’s Thai, Malay, Indian or Chinese, this trip has it all.

Day 1:

Tonight our Thailand & Malaysia small group adventure tour will stay in; BANGKOK - Our Thailand & Malaysia adventure holiday tour package officially starts when we check into our Bangkok accommodation. A welcoming dinner will be had in the evening.

If you arrive early enough your free time could be spent visiting the huge Chatuchak weekend market and/or, Wat Phra Kaew & the Grand Palace/Emerald Buddha, Wat Pho, Wat Arun, MBK or Siam shopping centres.

Maybe take a boat ride with the locals on the Chao Phraya express to experience some local shops/markets/life in Nonthaburi.

A few of the many other options may be Vimanmek Teak Mansion, Chinatown, Wat Traimit, Jim Thompsons House, Silom or Sukhumvit road shops.

OR? Maybe just lay back and have a traditional Thai Massage. A month in the capital wouldn't allow enough time to see it all. D.

Day 2:

BANGKOK - Unless jetlag says stay by the pool we have a free day to explore amazing Bangkok, known as Krungthep, (city of angels), in Thai.  Markets, shops, temples and numerous other attractions will keep you busy whichever way you decide to go. B.

Day 3:

BANGKOK - A local operator will take you on a  day tour to the bridge on The River Kwai. En route you will visit a floating market and the Phra Pathom Chedi which is the tallest Buddhist monument in the world.

As well as the bridge in Kanchanaburi you will also visit the Allied War Cemetary and the Death Museum.  L.

Day 4:

Tonight our small group tour will stay in; SUKOTHAI - Today our group tour package will take a local bus to the first capital of Thailand, Sukhothai. The rest of the day is free to relax or explore before dinner.

While the centuries-old, Old Sukhothai is the main reason for our visit New Sukhothai is an interesting town in itself.  The nearby Night Market will get the taste buds going for a start. B.

Day 5:

SUKHOTHAI - Sukhothai Historical Park; A local operator will take our group tour by Tuk Tuk to explore the old ruins of Sukhothai which is now a UNESCO World Heritage-listed historical park. B.

Day 6:

Tonight our small group Thailand & Malaysia travel tour will stay in; CHIANG MAI - Another local bus trip takes our small group tour to the northern capital of Thailand, Chiang Mai. Just some of the easy to visit sights by foot, Tuk Tuk or Sawngthaew, (share taxi) include Wat Phra Singh, Wat Chedi Luang, Wat Jet Yot and Wat Phan Tao among dozens of others.

If you don't temple out there is still the option of the mountain top temple of Phra That Doi Suthep, approx fifteen kilometres away in a national park.

For Shoppers, it doesn't get much better than Chiang Mai.

After a day at the modern mall of Central Festival, Worowat Market, Airport Plaza and/or dozens of other speciality shops all over the place you can barter hard at the famous Night Bazaar. Arts and crafts, textiles, silver and clothing are but a few of the great bargains to be had in Chiang Mai.

A budget trip to a dentist is another possibility as a way to offset some of your holiday expenses. B.

Day 7:

CHIANG MAI - A free day to explore more of the above mentioned or numerous other sights. Want more activity? Then maybe a visit to the Chiang Mai Night Safari or take a dinner cruise on the Ping River. Or just another boring Thai massage perhaps and a nap by the pool? Lots of live music venues for late nighters also. Chiang Mai comes with the lot. B.

Day 8:

Tonight our  Thailand & Malaysia  group tour adventure package will stay in; PAI.

Today by minibus takes our small group tour to our very special town in Thailand. Situated in a valley surrounded by beautiful blue mountain scenery, Pai has an aura all of its own.   Uto-pai,  Pai-adise or Pai-topia are just three names that come to mind.

This was once a legendary destination for backpackers only a la "The Beach' but is now well discovered. Known now to some as the beach of the mountains. It still retains its charm though.

Pai is possibly the chill out capital of Thailand, especially in low season. A vibrant nightlife of music, restaurants and bars is just the beginning B.

Day 9:

PAI - A local operator will show our small group tour around the district with the possibility of swimming under a cool mountain waterfall (seasonal). Other sights include the Viewpoint, Wat Phra That Mae Yen Temple on the hill and Pai Canyon all with spectacular scenery in every direction.

In the evening we will meet our trekking guide who will brief you about your upcoming adventure trek. B.

Day 10:

Tonight our small group Thailand & Malaysia adventure tour will stay in; HILLTRIBE VILLAGE HOMESTAY - Pack just a day pack, (our main bag will be safely stored in Pai), for the three day trek to Lahu, Lisu and Karen hill tribe villages, where our small group tour will experience a totally different culture and way of life. You will sleep in very basic huts with your local hosts and be prepared for some surprises. They often have no gas or electricity and live a very simple subsistence life, but you will never meet more hospitable people. Your guide will cook meals on an open fire and expect more taste treats. B. L. D.

FITNESS -  Trekking is not a contest to see who is the fittest or fastest. Although it is generally easy walking at your own pace, being mountain trekking as such, there will be some uphill sections so a reasonable level of fitness is required to get the most out of it. But relax, enjoy the scenery and local hospitality is the best way to approach it.

Day 11:

See Day 10. B. L. D.

Day 12:

Tonight our small group adventure tour package will stay in; PAI - Our cultural adventure experience will finish back in Pai after a fascinating three days where you saw the authentic way of life because you were in a small group rather than visiting tourist oriented villages aimed at mass tourism.  B.

Day 13:

PAI - A day to relax poolside and/or party in this magical town of Pai.  Other things to consider are a visit to the nearby KMT village of Ban Santichon which has Yunnanese influence.

A visit to the hot springs where a mud wrap or other treatments are on offer at Thapai Spa. B.

Day 14:

PAI - Another free day in Pai for the energetic to do some more exploration of this wonderful town, or just relax a bit more

A Thai massage and an afternoon cooking course are also included today and our tour coordinator will volunteer to judge the results as we devour our achievements. B. D.

Day 15:

Tonight our small group Thailand & Malaysia travel tour will stay in; CHIANG MAI - Sadly our small group tour will leave Pai at leisure and return to Chiang Mai. Rest of the day is free for any last minute shopping or sightseeing in the region. B.

Day 16:

Tonight our small group holiday tour of Thailand & Malaysia will stay in; KUALA LUMPUR- The adventure group tour part is now making way for the even better food and holiday group tour part.

Today we will take a short international flight to Kuala Lumpur rather than the previous two overnight trains like many others do.

Now that there are flights from Chiang Mai to K. L. we can now visit the Malaysian capital for two nights. Better known to all as simply K.L it is a bit like a smaller version of Bangkok with loads to see and do. The Petronas Twin Towers is just one of the must-see for some.

For an even higher view of the city try the 421 metre high Menara KL (KL Tower) built on top of the Bukit Manas Forest Reserve.

  • Thean Hou Temple
  • National Art Gallery
  • Islamic Arts Museum
  • National Museum

Then in no particular order it may be the colonial Kuala Lumpur Train Station, Merdeka Square, Masjid Negara (National Mosque), Masjid Jamek (Friday Mosque) or stroll around the Central Market or Lake gardens where the K.L. bird Park; is the worlds largest walk in aviary with almost 200 species of birds.

But just like Bangkok; A month wouldn't allow enough time to see all the sights.   No meals.

Day 17:

KUALA LUMPUR - A totally free day to explore K.L. The city centre is reasonably compact which makes for an interesting stroll in itself. B.

As we stay in the heart of Chinatown,  nearby Petaling street has a multitude of street vendors.

An amazing amount of choices at meal time will be the toughest thing we have to decide on today as a real food Chinatown surrounds our accommodation.

Other opportunities for shopping include:
Central Market
 Royal Selangor Pewter Factory

Just a few of the many shopping malls include:
Berjaya Times Square
Mid Valley Megamall
Pavillion KL

Day 18:

Tonight our Thailand & Malaysia small group tour package will stay in; TANAH RATA - A chance for our small group tour to cool down for a while as we head by local bus to the hill station town of Tanah Rata, the main town in the Cameron Highlands. At 1800 metres above sea level it's blankets year round at night with cooler but not cold days most of the year.

Some of the attractions include the Tea Estates. Sam Poh Temple and the Sri Tehnadayuthapany Swamy Indian Temple.

But with the cooler climate, the major pastime for many visitors is hiking along the mountain trails of which there are numerous marked ones.

Once again a foodies delight awaits in Tanah Rata with some of the best South Indian restaurants in Malaysia. Just one worthy of a mention is Restaurant  Bunga Suria which is just about as good as it gets for South indian food.

Lots of Arts and Craft shops nearby to tempt you also. B.

Day 19:

TANAH RATA - Check out the enviromental awareness in the highlands before either a morning or afternoon half day tour of the region today. The tour includes a visit to the Boh Tea Estate a Chinese temple and a butterfly farm while all the time enjoying the great scenery as you go. B.

Day 20:

TANAH RATA - A free day with maybe a short walk along a stream and around a golf course that will see us in the nearby quaint village of Brinchang. For anyone not wishing to do this leisurely 1 hour walk, a local bus will have you there in 15 minutes. Explore this peaceful village before returning to Tanah Rata. B.

Day 21:

Tonight our Thailand & Malaysia group holiday tour will stay on;  PENANG - FOOD! FOOD! & FOOD! By local bus again today will see our group tour in Georgetown the big and busy capital of Penang island.

Georgetown has an atmosphere unlike any other place known to Baktrax in Malaysia and possibly all of S.E. Asia. It's one of our all time favourite destinations.

Go back in time as you walk the fascinating streets of the hectic state capital. Streets being the way to go much of the time as the footpaths are often owned by the resident house or business and as such are often blocked off for public use. Just a few of the main attractions include:

  • Fort Cornwallis.
  • Penang Museum.
  • Khoo Kongsi Chinese Clan House.
  • Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion.
  • Alpha Utara gallery.
  • Acheen Street Mosque or Hainan Temple and dozens more mosques, temples and colonial buildings.
  • Or head up to Penang Hill at 800 metres to get some great views of the island. Do this either by a long hard walk or take the historical Funicular Train where a monkey or two is often seen scampering around the tracks.
  • Lastly, but not the least, another chance of a   budget visit to a local dentist to offset some of your holiday costs. No meals.

Day 22:

PENANG ISLAND  -  FOOD! FOOD! FOOD! A free day to explore this fantastic destination . But without a doubt one of the main purposes of coming to Penang is the FOOD! Our accommodation is within a few minutes walk of a multitude of Malay, Chinese or Indian restaurants. Penang's famous Curry Laksa or Indian Tandoori chicken with Garlic Nan bread are just but 2 of the better known local favs. This will also be your first of many chances to eat the local way with a  Banana Leaf Meal and it doesn't get much better than a bottomless one at Krisna Villa restaurant in  Little India. B.

Day 23:

PENANG ISLAND  - Repeat - FOOD! FOOD! FOOD! Another free day to explore some more of the island and/or Georgetown and more FOOD.

China Town, Little India or the modern shopping malls of Komtar, Prangin or the even more upmarket Gurney Plaza will keep you busy again today. The unique Malay desert of Ice Kachang will help cool you down as you go. B.

TOUR COORDINATOR TIP: At least one morning forgo the hotel breakfast and invest $5.00 at nearby Jaya Indian restaurant to experience a full Indian breakfast. (Open 24 hours)

Day 24:

Tonight our small group Thailand & Malaysia holiday tour package will stay on; LANGKAWI ISLAND - A  morning ferry ride will see our small group tour on lovely Langkawi Island for three days of true tropical island holiday relaxation.

Being a duty-free island Langkawi has some of the cheapest beer in the country among other things, but at the same time please respect the local culture if they ask you not to drink it in certain places. No meals.

Day 25:

LANGKAWI ISLAND - Our beach side accommodation and the warm waters will see you in relaxation mode for our last days in Malaysia. Beachside or some strolling are the main two choices today.

OR?  Shopaholics can take a taxi to one of the duty-free malls. B.

Day 26:

LANGKAWI ISLAND - More of the same. Beach, food, shop, drink. B.

Day 27:

Tonight our  group  adventure tour package will stay in; TRANG - Today we head back to Thailand like real travellers. Firstly a local ferry back to the Thai border province of Satun. Then after immigration duties a bus trip to nearby Trang for an overnight stay in this interesting southern Thai town. A fabulous REAL Thai street market will give us the opportunity to experience dining with the locals in the evening. Khanom Jeen, (Chinese noodles), is one of the famous Trang dishes.   No meals.

Day 28:

Tonight our small group Thailand & Malaysia holiday tour package will stay in; BANGKOK - A Short domestic flight will see us back where we began with the rest of the day free to further explore the Big Mango. B.

Day 29:

BANGKOK - final free day to do some last minute shopping or sightseeing in the City of Angels.  Whatever you decide boredom won't be a part of it. Bangkok, whether it's love or loathe, is one of the worlds most amazing cities. A final massage?

A farewell dinner will be had in the evening. B. D.

Day 30:

Our Thailand and Malaysia small group adventure & holiday tour package is officially over when we check out of our Bangkok accommodation. An airport transfer is included as always. B.

Gee did that go fast? But you'll be planning your next visit as soon as you get home. Two truly addictive destinations.  Safe & friendly but still with both some adventure and relaxation.  You will also never look at food back home the same way again.
